Veteran worker heads Del Taco Del Taco is a chain of North American fast-food restaurants specializing in Mexican-style offerings as well as American foods such as burgers, fries and shakes.

The first Del Taco restaurant was founded in Yermo, California in 1961 by Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson.
 

LAKE FOREST -- Del Taco said Wednesday that 27-year company veteran Shirlene Lopez, who started out mopping floors and wiping tables at the age of 14, is now president of the Mexican quick serve chain.

``Shirlene Lopez is a dynamic leader who understands the Del Taco business at every level. She is committed to doing whatever it takes to deliver Del Taco to greater success,'' said Sid Feltenstein, chairman of Sagittarius Brands Inc., Del Taco's parent company.

Del Taco's leadership team will report directly to Lopez, including facilities, legal, franchise operations, store operations, human resources The fancy word for "people." The human resources department within an organization, years ago known as the "personnel department," manages the administrative aspects of the employees. , purchasing/quality control, training and marketing.

Lopez joined Del Taco one day after her 14th birthday and within four years was a restaurant general manager. By age 20, she was a training manager and part of the new store opening team, and continued to rise through the ranks.

Lopez succeeds Ron Petty who became president of Sagittarius Brands Development Group.

Cathay Bank Cathay Bank (Chinese: 國泰銀行) is a Chinese-American bank based in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1962, it has since expanded its network throughout California and into Massachusetts, New York, Texas, Washington, Illinois, and New Jersey (pending the  buys New Asia Bank Asia Bank, N.A. Cathay General Bancorp, the holding company for Cathay Bank, announced the completion of its acquisition of New Asia Bancorp Inc., the holding company for New Asia Bank, for $23.46 million in cash and stock.

Immediately following the completion of the deal, which was announced on July 6, New Asia Bank, which is based in the Chicago area, was merged into Cathay Bank.

City National reports earnings

City National Corp., the parent company of City National Bank, reported third quarter net income of $59 million, or $1.20 per share, compared with $59.8 million, or $1.17 per share, for the same period in 2005.

Year to date, City National has earned $175 million, or $3.47 per share, on revenue of $633.4 million.

In the first three quarters of 2005, the company earned net income of $173 million, or $3.39 per share, on revenue of $607.7 million.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- AOL announced Wednesday it will lay off 1,300 employees by closing call centers in New Mexico New Mexico, state in the SW United States. At its northwestern corner are the so-called Four Corners, where Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah meet at right angles; New Mexico is also bordered by Oklahoma (NE), Texas (E, S), and Mexico (S).  and Arizona as part of a previously announced restructuring plan.

AOL, the Time Warner Inc. online unit formerly known as America Online, also plans to sell its call center in Ogden, Utah.

The cuts include 900 layoffs at the Albuquerque call center and 400 jobs at the center in Tucson, Ariz., AOL spokesman Nicholas Graham said. The Arizona and New Mexico call centers each have operated for 10 years.

The closures are part of a restructuring plan that Dulles, Va.-based AOL announced in August.
