Greenspan's book may raise interest

WASHINGTON - Alan Greenspan is planning to write a book about his 18 years as chairman of the Federal Reserve system.

Representing Greenspan is Robert B. Barnett, a Washington lawyer who negotiated a $12 million book deal for former President Clinton's memoir and an $8 million contract for Hillary Rodham Clinton's book about her White House years.

Greenspan's tenure as the world's most influential central banker ended Jan. 31, when he presided over his 149th meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee, the Fed panel that meets eight times a year to set interest rates.

Throughout his time as Fed chairman, Greenspan's often-cryptic pronouncements were watched closely by investors for clues to future direction of interest rates, as well as the health of the economy.

WOODLAND HILLS - Youbet.com Inc. announced Monday that it completed its acquisition of privately held United Tote Co. for $31.9 million, plus the assumption of $14.7 million of United Tote secured debt.

The debt is primarily related to the financing of equipment that is leased to United Tote's track customers.

The adjusted purchase price is $2 million less than the previously announced purchase price.

United Tote supplies pari-mutuel tote services to 94 racing facilities in North America, including Churchill Downs and New York Racing Association tracks, and 11 facilities in Korea, Mexico, Spain and other foreign markets.
