BRIEFCASE TETRA TECH GETS EPA TRAINING PACT.

PASADENA - Pasadena-based Tetra Tech Inc. announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a $37 million, five-year Environmental Response Training Program contract by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and .

Tetra Tech will provide nationwide environmental response training services, including training in sampling, groundwater investigations, emergency response, air monitoring, and simulations to federal, state and local government employees.

The contract is a cost-plus-fixed-fee single award, and includes dedicated program staffing.

It is the fourth consecutive training contract awarded to Tetra Tech by the EPA EPA eicosapentaenoic acid.

Volkswagen, Audi recall announced

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Volkswagen of America Volkswagen of America (VWoA) is the U.S. subsidiary of the Volkswagen automobile company in Germany. Formed in April 1955 in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey to standardize dealership service in the United States, it grew to 909 Volkswagen dealers in the United States by 1965 under the  Inc. and Audi of America Inc. are recalling about 530,000 vehicles because of faulty ignition coils.

The automakers said Tuesday that the ignition coils ``have been experiencing a higher-than-normal failure rate.''

The automakers plan to replace the coils on all 2001 and 2002 model-year cars equipped with certain engines.

The recall also includes vehicles equipped with the Passat W8 engine, and all Volkswagens equipped with the 2.8-liter VR6 and the Audi 3.0-liter V6 engine.

Early production 2003 models also are affected.

Customers will be notified about the coil replacements by mail.

Factory orders up in December

WASHINGTON - The nation's manufacturers saw demand for their products grow in December, offering a dose of good news for an industry that has been struggling.

The Commerce Department reported Tuesday that orders to U.S. factories bounced back in December, rising by 0.4 percent over November orders, when orders declined by 0.8 percent.

Stronger demand for computers and household appliances more than offset weaker demand for automobiles and other transportation equipment.

December's performance was slightly better than the 0.3 percent advance analysts were expecting.
