BRIEFCASE RYLAND EXPANDS STOCK REPURCHASE.

CALABASAS - The Ryland Group Inc. announced authorization Tuesday from its board to repurchase up to an additional 1 million shares of common stock.

The authorization is in addition to the 651,200 shares remaining from the company's previous repurchase authorization.

Over the past five years, Ryland has repurchased more than 5 million shares of its common stock. The company currently has 13.2 million shares outstanding.

Also Tuesday, The Ryland Group announced earnings estimates for fiscal year 2002 exceeding $8.50 per share - in line with analyst expectations.

Ryland based the estimate on its expectations of achieving earnings per share of 80 cents for the first quarter of 2002 and $1.85, $2.65 and $3.20 for the second, third and fourth quarters, respectively.

Downtown group names director

Company recalls risky scuba valves

WASHINGTON - A San Diego company is recalling 3,500 of its overpressure overpressure,
