BRIEFCASE RIVAL DOLL MAKERS FIGHTING IN COURT.

The Bratz versus Barbie brawl has taken a new twist, with the big-eyed dolls' creator's attorney on Monday accusing Mattel Inc. of fraud.

The El Segundo-based giant, which manufactures Barbie, fired the first shot in April, suing freelance toy designer Carter Bryant Carter Bryant is a former Mattel employee and current MGA Entertainment employee who created the Bratz line of dolls [1]. At Mattel he helped design a number of Barbie playsets and dresses [1].  for breach of an inventions contract, alleging that he'd illegally designed toys for a rival while still working for Mattel from 1995 to 1998 and again from January 1999 to October 2000.

Bryant, who now freelances for North Hills' MGA Entertainment MGA Entertainment is a manufacturer of children's toys and entertainment products founded in 1997. Its products include the Bratz fashion doll line. External links

A counterclaim contains assertions that the defendant could have made by starting a lawsuit if the plaintiff had not already begun the action.

A Mattel spokeswoman declined to comment on the lawsuit Monday.

Roger Ames back at Time Warner

BURBANK - Former Warner Music chief Roger Ames has returned to Time Warner Inc. as a consultant after leaving an advisory role he held with the recording company since its sale by Time Warner to an investor group.

The move ends speculation over whether Ames, who became chairman and chief executive of Warner Music in 1999, would take a prominent role in the management structure of the newly independent Warner Music Group Warner Music Group (WMG) is one of the four major record labels.

Warner Music Group also has a publishing arm, Warner/Chappell Music, which dates back to 1929, when Jack Warner, president of Warner Bros. Pictures Inc.
