AT&T is dropping Rose Bowl in 2003

AT&T Corp. dropped a bombshell Wednesday when the telecommunications giant said it would not renew its contract as the presenting sponsor of the 2003 Rose Bowl Game.

The decision leaves the ``Granddaddy of Them All'' college football game without a major corporate backer for the first time in more than four years, opening the door for another company to attach its name to one of the most storied events in sports.

``Currently, we're not pursuing the presenting sponsorship of the Rose Bowl,'' said Cindy Neale, an AT&T spokeswoman. ``At the moment, we're not in any discussions to be the presenting sponsor next time.''
