BRIEFCASE MELLON 1ST NAMES MYERS AS NEW CEO.

Veteran Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  banker Christopher D. Myers was named chairman and chief executive officer of Mellon 1st Business Bank on Wednesday.

Myers will oversee the bank's seven-member executive management team, which sets corporate strategies and policies, as well as handling day-to-day operations.

Myers most recently was an executive vice president and head of the bank's northern division. He previously was a vice president and manager of the Commercial Banking Center for Sanwa Bank of California's San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

The Valencia resident has also held various positions at First Interstate Bank of California The Bank of California was founded in San Francisco, California on July 5, 1864 by William Chapman Ralston. It was the first commercial bank in the Western United States, the second-richest bank in the nation, and considered instrumental in developing the American Old West. .

Bluetorch adding Island Tribe brand

Los Angeles-based Bluetorch Inc. announced Wednesday that it has signed a definitive agreement with Laguna Niguel-based Island Tribe Inc. to purchase the majority interest in the surf apparel brand company.

Domingo ``Ming'' Clemente will continue to serve as the president of Island Tribe, which will become a Bluetorch portfolio company in the same vein as Total Sports Distribution Inc. and Unboxed Distribution Inc.

Clemente, who founded the Island Tribe brand, said he was ``delighted to have finalized See finalization.  the agreement so we can initiate the undertaking of introducing Island Tribe to the national core retail marketplace.''

Airlines ask U.S. to stop filling tank

In a letter to Senate and House leaders, the Air Transport Association called for oversight hearings ``as soon as possible'' on the effect that record-high fuel prices is having on the transportation industry.

The airlines are asking Congress to consider whether the federal government should stop acquiring oil for its reserve or even start selling some of it to stabilize oil markets.

Ex-Enron official admits fraud aid

HOUSTON - Enron's former top investor-relations executive pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges that he helped paper over the energy company's shaky financial condition before its collapse.

Mark Koenig Mark Koenig (July 19, 1904 - April 22, 1993) is a former shortstop in Major League Baseball. He played for 12 seasons from 1925-1936.
