 Enron Corp. executives on trial for conspiracy and fraud have requested lists of the reams of documents presented during the six-week trial.

Deliberations wrapped up Friday without a verdict shortly after the panel sent a note to the judge midafternoon Friday, the first full day of deliberations in the first criminal trial to emerge from Enron's 2001 collapse.

U.S. District Judge Ewing Werlein directed attorneys on both sides to comply with the request by Monday.

The jury began deliberating late Thursday after hearing lengthy closing arguments.

 - ChevronTexaco Corp.'s third-quarter profit improved by 62 percent as the oil giant continued to cash in the oil-price spikes that are squeezing household and business budgets.

The San Ramon-based company said Friday that it earned $3.2 billion, or $1.51 per share, during the three months ended in September. That compared with net income of $1.98 billion, or $1.01 per share, at the same time last year.

If not for profits generated by since-discontinued operations, ChevronTexaco said, it would have earned $1.38 per share. That was a penny above the mean estimate among analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call.

 - The Food and Drug Administration told Merck & Co. that it requires further safety and efficacy data before it will approve Arcoxia, the successor drug to now-defunct pain reliever Vioxx, the pharmaceutical maker announced Friday.

The news was not unexpected because Merck pulled Vioxx from the market last month after a study showed it doubled patients' risk of heart attacks and strokes. The two products are in the same class of drugs known as cox-2 inhibitors Cox-2 Inhibitors Definition

Cox-2 inhibitors are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which selectively inhibit cyclooxygenase-2. The cyclooxygenases are required for the creation of prostaglandins.

Bristol-Myers Q3 profits fall 16%

NEW YORK - Bristol-Myers Squibb Bristol-Myers Squibb (NYSE: BMY), colloquially referred to as BMS, is a pharmaceutical corporation, formed by a 1989 merger between pharmaceutical companies Bristol-Myers Company, founded in 1887 by William McLaren Bristol and John Ripley Myers in Clinton, NY (both were  Co.'s third-quarter profits fell 16 percent as the major drug maker struggles with the loss of patent protection on key products but also increases spending on research and development.

The company also lowered its full-year guidance Friday to between $1.39 a share and $1.44 a share from between $1.43 a share and $1.48 a share on charges it took during the quarter. It reiterated that patent losses will muzzle muzzle
