Low-pay workers need several jobs

The report, by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, says this problem pervades the entire nation, demonstrating that minimum-wage workers cannot support a family working only one job.

With California's minimum wage of $6.25 per hour, a full-time worker takes home $1,000 per month before taxes. The study assumes that that worker then puts 30 percent of gross pay toward housing, using standards provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

That $300 is considerably short of any possible housing in Los Angeles.
