BRIEFCASE GUITAR CENTER INC. PLUCKS UP M&M.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE - Guitar Center Inc. said on Monday it has completed its $6.8 million acquisition of M&M Music, a band-instrument retailer that serves more than 200 schools in the South.

The deal, which includes five M&M stores, involves Guitar Center's subsidiary, American Music. Each of the M&M stores in Georgia and Florida will be converted to the American Music brand.

Shares of Westlake Village-based Guitar Center declined 22 cents to close at $18.99 Monday.

T-bill rates fall to 5-month low

WASHINGTON - Interest rates on short-term Treasury securities fell in Monday's auction.

The Treasury Department sold $17 billion in three-month bills at a discount rate of 1.68 percent, down from 1.7 percent last week. An additional $15 billion was sold in six-month bills at a rate of 1.765 percent, down from 1.8 percent.

Both the three-month and six-month rates were the lowest since Jan. 22 when the bills sold for 1.67 percent and 1.735 percent, respectively.
