State added 8,700 jobs in November

California's economy added 8,700 payroll jobs last month while the number of job seekers fell to the lowest level since 2001, the state said Friday.

A survey of employers indicated that more than 14.6 million people held payroll jobs in November, the state's Employment Development Department said.

Farm workers and the self-employed were not included in the survey.

The state's unemployment rate was 5.7 percent, down from a revised 5.8 percent in October. A year ago, it was 6.6 percent.

A separate survey of households suggested that more than 16.7 million people held jobs in November, a gain of 409,000 over the same month a year ago and an increase of 25,000 over October.

Tenet says move will be done soon

Durango, Dakota recall under way
