CAMARILLO - Shares of Electronic Clearing House Inc. leaped more than 23 percent Tuesday after the electronic payment service provider reported a profitable fourth quarter.

BURBANK - Ted Cordes, NBC vice president of program standards, will retire at the end of the year after 35 years at the network, the company announced Tuesday.

Cordes' successor is Ken Samuel, a vice president in the network's Compliance and Standards department.

Cordes' duties included ``reviewing all entertainment programming to ensure NBC follows policies set by the network and the Federal Communications Commission Federal Communications Commission (FCC), independent executive agency of the U.S. government established in 1934 to regulate interstate and foreign communications in the public interest. ,'' according to NBC's Laarni Dacanay.

Putnam fires nine in trading probe

BOSTON - Putnam Investments has fired nine more employees for alleged improper trading, the fund company said Tuesday in a letter to shareholders announcing the results of its internal investigation into market timing.

Chief executive Ed Haldeman said other employees were ``strongly admonished'' but not fired because they had not been aware of company policies or stopped the practice after being warned.

Putnam said its review of all trading activity, going back nearly six years, found most improper trading took place between 1998 and 2000 in international and global funds.
