BRIEFCASE DOLE LOWERS DEBT BY $167 MILLION.

WESTLAKE VILLAGE - Dole Food Co. announced Wednesday that it has reduced its debt by $167 million from the $459 million total outstanding under the fruit grower's senior secured credit facility.

During the second quarter 2003, the company repaid $476 million of principal under the facility from the proceeds of an additional senior note offering.

Today, AOL Time Warner Inc.'s board will vote on a proposal to drop ``AOL'' from the company's name, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity. The measure was expected to pass.

Northrop names board chairman

Northrop Grumman Corp. said Wednesday that Ronald D. Sugar, the defense contractor's president and chief executive, has been named board chairman.

Sugar, 55, will take over Oct. 1 from Kent Kresa, who retires on that date after serving as chairman since 1990.

Water caps pose hazard to children

WASHINGTON - An Atlanta company is recalling 3.2 million bottles of water after receiving 10 complaints of caps unexpectedly coming off and posing a choking hazard to young children.

The water was sold singly and in multipacks in 8-oz., 8.5-oz. and .33- liter sizes under the brand names Dannon Fluoride to Go, Pure American, Enon Springs, Alhambra Junior Sport Drinking Water and Sparkletts Junior Sport Drinking Water.

Consumers can return the water to the store of purchase for a refund.

Firm's pacifiers are being recalled

WASHINGTON - A Minnesota company is recalling some 154,000 pacifiers because the product may fall apart and pose a choking hazard to infants and small children.

 Products of Burnsville, Minn., were sold nationwide at Kroger-owned stores, which would include Ralphs and Food 4 Less stores in Southern California, from August 2002 to August 2003 for about $3.50 to $5.

The recalled pacifiers have model numbers 35826, 35827, 35828 and 35829.

Pacifiers can be returned to Kroger stores for a full refund.
