A call to Speed Racer Enterprises, based in Santa Monica and owned by John Rocknowski and his son, James, was not returned. The Rocknowskis bought the worldwide rights to the animated series, excluding Japan, in 1991.

According to the lawsuit, DIC acquired the distribution, merchandising and licensing rights to ``Speed Racer'' in August 2002. It also licensed rights to Nickelodeon later that month to start airing the 86 half-hour shows that are dubbed into English.

BURBANK - Disney kids shows will disappear from the UPN television network this fall.

The Walt Disney Co. has decided not to renew its deal to provide shows such as ``Digimon,'' ``Legend of Tarzan'' and ``Recess'' on UPN affiliates Monday through Friday afternoons and Sunday mornings, Disney said Thursday.

The decision reflects the poor ratings that programs for younger children draw on broadcast networks and the migration of viewers to cable channels such as Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel, Disney said.

A bankrupt Internet comics company named after a Marvel Comics founder sued the Merrill Lynch brokerage, seeking $10 million for the firm's alleged part in the company's demise.

Defunct Stan Lee Media Inc. filed suit Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, alleging that the brokerage firm didn't do enough to keep a former Stan Lee Media leader and his brother, a Merrill Lynch financial consultant, from running an alleged scheme to manipulate the price of the company's stock.

Stephen Gordon, a former vice president for Los Angeles-based Stan Lee Media, was convicted in December of conspiracy, wire fraud, bank fraud and making false statements in connection with a check-kiting scheme that cost Merrill Lynch and other financial institutions millions of dollars.

Gordon's brother, Jonathan, was convicted of wire fraud, bank fraud and making false statements. The brothers and Stan Lee Media co-founder Peter Paul, who was arrested in Brazil, also face charges in New York New York, state, United States
