BURBANK - Members of the Writers Guild of America The Writers Guild of America is a term often referring to the joint efforts of the Writers Guild of America, East and the Writers Guild of America, west. Jointly, the two guilds act as the collective bargaining representative, or labor union, for writers in the motion picture and  voted Wednesday to give union representation to writers of six animated series on the Nickelodeon cable network. Paul Koretz Paul Koretz (D-Los Angeles) announced his plans on August 2, 2007[1] to seek the Los Angeles 5th District City Council seat now occupied by Jack Weiss in 2009. Weiss is expected to run for Los Angels City Attorney against the current City Attorney, Rock Delgadio. , D-West Hollywood, chairman of the California Assembly Labor Committee, oversaw the election, which resulted in a 19-2 vote in favor of the writers.

End of line soon for United Shuttle

CHICAGO - In its latest concession to the severe drop-off in air travel, United Airlines said Wednesday it is discontinuing its United Shuttle brand at the end of October and incorporating at least some of those flights into United and United Express flights.

United Shuttle operates mostly in the West, using a fleet of 59 Boeing 737 airplanes. Before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that caused passenger demand to slump badly, it offered about 468 daily flights.

The nation's second-biggest airline said United or United Express will continue to offer service in nearly all markets that currently have Shuttle service.

EVENDALE, Ohio - General Electric Aircraft Engines said Wednesday it will cut up to 4,000 jobs, or 13 percent of its work force, by early next year because it expects the demand for engines to drop in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
