Bronfman spearheaded the move to transform Seagram into a media company, orchestrating purchases of Dutch music company Polygram in 1998 and Hollywood's Universal Studios in 1995.

Disney employing seasonal workers

Westfield buying 9 malls in 6 states

WESTLAKE - The Richard E. Jacobs Group plans to sell nine malls in six states to an Australian company for $756 million.

The deal disclosed Wednesday with Sydney-based Westfield America Trust is expected to close at the end of February.

Westfield said the malls it is acquiring generated retail sales of more than $1.9 billion in 2000. It already has a stake in about 40 U.S. malls.

Japan's economy in recession again

TOKYO - Japan sank into its third recession in a decade with its long ailing economy shrinking 0.5 percent for the quarter ending in September, the government said Friday, joining a deepening global downturn that has already placed the United States in recession.

With the world's two largest economies in recession, Japan faces a serious dilemma. It can no longer count on a robust U.S. economy to lift its exports, a critical engine for growth.

Veggie sandwich set for Burger King

 - Coming soon to a Burger King near you: a new King Supreme sandwich, veggie burgers, a new milkshake and English muffin eggwich breakfast sandwich.

The fast-food chain is planning an upgrade to its menu as part of a major turnaround plan developed by its new management team. The changes will be felt from breakfast through dinner, with plans to introduce a new chicken sandwich next year.

The King Supreme will offer two patties with cheese, special sauce, pickles and onions. The milkshakes will be old fashioned, with a thicker consistency and an ice-cream base. The English muffin eggwich will offer another option in the morning.

Burger King also plans to enter the new world of veggie burgers, hoping to tap into a new market of consumers.
