BRIEFCASE AMGEN APPROVED TO ACQUIRE TULARIK.

U.S. regulators said on Thursday that Amgen Inc.'s $1.3 billion acquisition has been approved, allowing the transaction to proceed as expected.

Amgen will be acquiring about 80 percent of San Francisco-based Tularik that it doesn't already own.

Tularik's focus has been in three areas: cancer, inflammation and metabolic disease metabolic disease,
n a disorder that causes dysfunction of the metabolic action of the body, resulting in loss of control of homeostasis.

. The company's work with small molecules is particularly notable as fighting cancer with orally administered medication becomes a more attractive option.

Jakks, Lucasfilm in 'Star Wars' deal

MALIBU - Toy-maker Jakks Pacific JAKKS Pacific, Inc. NASDAQ: JAKK is is a multi-brand company that designs and markets a broad range of toys and consumer products and is based in Malibu, California. Pixar Q1 earnings triple last year's

Profits at Pixar Animation Studios more than tripled in the first quarter, boosted by strong home video sales of its last animated feature, ``Finding Nemo.''

Univision reports doubled profits

Los Angeles-based Univision Communications Inc.'s first-quarter profits more than doubled on the strength of higher ratings at the Spanish-language broadcaster's radio and television stations and three networks.

Univision on Thursday reported net income of $31.6 million, or 9 cents per share, in the quarter ended March 31, compared with $12.8 million, or 5 cents per share, in the same period last year.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call had expected Univision to earn 8 cents a share for the quarter.
