Using its 100-point scale, the state Department of Transportation ranked the older southbound bridge below 50 points, the threshold for structures that do not meet current guidelines and must be replaced. Caltrans approved the project in July and is ready to begin the bidding process. The cooperative agreement set for review Tuesday will set forth guidelines for the coordination between the city and the county. The agreement is necessary because part of one of the bridges is in county territory.
