BRIDGEPORT MACHINES REPORTS FIRST QUARTER RESULTS.BRIDGEPORT, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 1, 1995--Bridgeport Machines, Inc. (Nasdaq:BPTM BPTM Berkeley Predictive Technology Model ) today reported results for the fiscal 1996 first quarter ended July 1, 1995. Net sales Net Sales The amount a seller receives from the buyer after costs associated with the sale are deducted. Notes: This amount is calculated by subtracting the following items from gross sales: merchandise returned for credit, allowances for damaged or missing goods, freight in the first quarter of fiscal 1996 rose 40.0% to $47,273,000 compared with $33,754,000 in the first quarter of fiscal 1995. Net income increased 21.5% to $1,950,000, compared with $1,605,000 in the fiscal 1995 first quarter. On a per share basis, net income was $0.34 per share versus $0.39 in the same quarter last year, on 38.6% more average shares outstanding in the latest period due to the Company's initial public offering in November 1994. The Company's strong growth in the first quarter was driven by increased international sales in Europe and Asia, which included a $1.5 million sale of machining centers to a tractor factory in China in April, 1995. International sales represented 41% of total sales in the first quarter compared with 33% of total sales in fiscal 1995. Domestic sales also increased, supported by strong levels of orders and continued favorable fa·vor·a·ble adj. 1. Advantageous; helpful: favorable winds. 2.
