BRIDGE PROJECTS TO START SOON REGIONAL TRAFFIC WILL BE AFFECTED.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - Two local bridges that are more than 45 years old will be replaced as part of an ongoing highway construction and maintenance program.

On April 5, 5th District Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Michael Dennis Antonovich (born 1939 in Los Angeles, California) is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors representing the Fifth District, which covers northern Los Angeles County, the Antelope, Santa Clarita, Pasadena, and parts of the San Fernando and San  announced plans to replace the Soledad Canyon Road Bridge over the Bee Canyon Wash and the Aliso Canyon Road Bridge over Aliso Canyon Creek in Acton.

Built in 1949, the Soledad Canyon Road bridge will be demolished and replaced with a wider bridge that meets the federal highway guideline. The repairs also will include realignment re·a·lign

 of the streets approaching the bridge.

Construction is expected to be completed between July and November.

The Acton bridge, built in 1953, will also be torn down and upgraded to federal standards. Repairs will be completed between July and February.

Both bridges will be constructed using concrete rather than timber, which was used in the original versions.

Once work begins, Soledad Canyon Road may be reduced to two traffic lanes, one in each direction, and could be narrowed to one traffic lane during daylight hours and be controlled by flaggers.

Aliso Canyon Road at Aliso Canyon Creek may be open only to local traffic.

The county Department of Public Works will open bids May 8 to contract the projects.
