BRICK THUG SCARS GIRL.Byline: By MAGGIE BARRY A TEENAGE girl was left scarred for life when she was hit by a brick after going to investigate a riot in her street. The unnamed 15-year-old was woken at 5.30am by a fight between relatives and a group of people outside her Edinburgh home, a court heard yesterday. As she approached the brawl George Ewing, 22, threw a half-brick which struck her in the face, breaking her jaw and cheekbone cheek·bone n. See zygomatic bone. and leaving a 3cm gash. At Edinburgh sheriff court yesterday Ewing admitted assault to severe injury and permanent disfigurement dis·fig·ure tr.v. dis·fig·ured, dis·fig·ur·ing, dis·fig·ures To mar or spoil the appearance or shape of; deform. [Middle English disfiguren, from Old French desfigurer . Fiscal depute de·pute tr.v. de·put·ed, de·put·ing, de·putes 1. To appoint or authorize as an agent or a representative. 2. To assign (authority or duties) to another; delegate. John Kirk said a member of Ewing's group staggered into a car outside the girl's home and was confronted by her family on May 3 last year. He ran off pursued by the family and a fight began. Mr Kirk added: "Ewing was part of the crowd but it would not appear he was involved in any of the fighting." Police were called after it became obvious the girl was badly injured and Ewing admitted responsibility. Mr Kirk added: "She said she suffered from pains in her jaw and loss of feeling along the right side of her face." The girl now has to wear her hair long to cover a scar and is also prescribed cosmetics by the NHS. Sheriff Fiona Reith bailed Ewing, of Edinburgh, and deferred sentence until April for background reports. CAPTION(S): YOB George Ewing |
