BRIAN GETS ROPED INTO THE ACTION; THE QUALIFIERS.

Byline: ORLA BANNON

Donegal v Derry, today, 7pm

BRIAN Roper has been recalled to the Donegal team for tonight's AllIreland football qualifier against Derry.

He played a vital part in Donegal's winning of their first National League title in 2007.

.

Kavanagh and Cassidy will need to break even, at the very least, with Fergal Doherty and Patsy Bradley.

If Derry get a good supply of ball into Paddy and Eoin Bradley, who terrorised Monaghan last week, then it's hard to see how Donegal's defence will cope.

Adding even more spice to the midfield battle is that Kavanagh and Doherty have 'history' from Derry's Ulster Championship win in Ballybofey last year.

Doherty was banned for the subsequent semi-final after TV replays caught him striking Kavanagh off the ball.

Interestingly, John Joe Doherty has kept faith with goalkeeper Paul Durcan, who was taken off at half-time after a poor display against Clare last week.

Durcan should be kept busy tonight and he needs to keep a clean sheet if Donegal are to have any chance.

Michael Murphy is a superb prospect for Donegal and will cause problems for Derry, but he needs help and the other forwards need to support him.

Derry have struggled to put two good Championship performances back-to-back and that's a challenge facing Damien Cassidy's side right now.

Donegal always play better against better teams and should be much improved from their last three outings against Division Four teams in recent weeks.

However the force appears to be with Derry. DONEGAL (SFC SFC
