BREWSTER EARNS TKO AT OLYMPIC.

Byline: Robert Morales San Gabriel Valley The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. It lies to the east of the city of Los Angeles, to the north of the Puente Hills, to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains, and to the west of the Inland Empire.  Tribune

For the first three rounds Saturday night at the Olympic Auditorium, heavyweight Lamon Brewster "Relentless" Lamon Tajuan Brewster (born June 5, 1973 in Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American heavyweight professional boxer, who won the silver medal as an amateur at the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata. As a pro he has won the WBO World Heavyweight Title.  took his time, landed a few left jabs and a couple of right hands.

Then, Brewster exploded and doled out Adj. 1. doled out - given out in portions

a beating to Everett ``Big Foot'' Martin that forced the veteran from Texas to quit after the fourth round.

The victory, Brewster's 19th without a loss, goes down as a fourth-round technical knockout.

Brewster, of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , began his demolition of Martin by knocking him to the canvas and almost out of the ring early in the fourth round, and after rising, it was all Martin could do to last the round before quitting.

``They (veterans) look at us young guys as impatient and strong,'' said Brewster, 25, who has 17 knockouts. ``I wanted to be patient, keep picking at him, picking at him. I didn't let the crowd affect me.

``They want to see two wolves go after each other, but I wanted to go out there and pick, pick, pick. We took my trainer's brain and put it into my body and we got a victory.''

Brewster's patience is a virtue his trainer, Bill Slayton, instilled in him as a necessary intangible.

``He was being smart and careful,'' said Slayton, who trains Brewster out of the Broadway Gym in Los Angeles. ``He has learned not to pay any attention to the crowd. Listening to the crowd can get you knocked out.''

The crowd, about 2,000 strong, wasn't even booing Brewster for taking his time. It's as if fans knew his reputation for feeling out, then hammering, an opponent.

And it all came down on Martin in one tremendous round.

``Our motto is don't blink,'' said Brewster, who has scored 16 of his 17 knockouts inside four rounds; he has nine first-round knockouts.

Brewster floored Martin about one minute into the fourth round with a left hook-right hand combination. Martin (20-25-1) rose quickly, only to take more severe punishment the final two minutes.

At the end of the round, Martin, 34, walked around in a daze, before making it to his corner. Blood was flowing from his mouth. Hall of Fame referee Lou Filippo walked to Martin's corner and informed Martin he wanted to stop the bout.

``And he said, `Ok,' '' Filippo said.

The bout was scheduled for eight rounds.
