[French, from raconter, to relate, from Old French : re-, re- + aconter, Benson's last solo album was 60s-inspired, catchy and utterly loveable. But the Michigan singer-songwriter's follow-up is disappointing. Every song on this guitar-led set has a single hook which repeats and repeats, until you want to chuck the album out of the window. There's plenty of studio variety but whether he's littering his songs with strings, drums, a little electro-pop or whimsical whim·si·cal adj. 1. Erratic in behavior or degree of unpredictability: a whimsical personality. strumming, Benson doesn't achieve anything original.
