NFB-NEWSLINE provides audio versions of newspapers, magazines and TV listings using advanced text-to-speech technology. More than 250 newspapers send electronic text to the National Federation of the Blind, which administers the program with state sponsors. In addition to the Register-Guard, the Oregonian, Statesman Journal and Associated Press Oregon participate in the service.

The Oregon State Library Talking Book and Braille Services enrolls new users in NFB-NEWSLINE. Individuals may obtain an application online or by mail. Users receive an access code and call a toll-free number to hear articles from available publications 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The menu allows the user to browse content, change the speed and voice, and search for a particular word or subject.

A second public hearing on proposed changes to Lane Transit District fares and schedules will be held Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Eugene Public Library.

The transit district wants to increase its adult monthly pass from $35 to $38 and its three-month pass from $95 to $103, effective in July. Half-fare, youth and senior passes would climb from $17.50 to $19 for one month and from $47.50 to $51.50 for three months.

Group pass rates would climb 8.1 percent in January.

Proposed service changes include increasing the frequency of Route 11 Thurston between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., adding a Breeze run that would leave Valley River Center Valley River Center is a shopping mall located in Eugene, Oregon. As the largest shopping center south of Portland and north of San Francisco, this mall comprises over 130 local and national stores and restaurants.  at 7:03 a.m. and arrive at the Eugene Station at 7:25 a.m. weekdays, and adding stops to Routes 28 and 36.

After hearing Monday's testimony, the board will vote on service changes and approve the first reading of an ordinance on fare changes at its March 21 meeting.

A man fleeing from officers crashed a car into a house near the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon.
