For the first six months of fiscal 1995, funds from operations amounted to $15,139,000, or $1.38 per share, up 10 percent from $13,708,000, or $1.25 per share, in the first six months of fiscal 1994.

Net income for the quarter totaled to $7,192,000, or 66 cents per share, vs. $5,632,000, or 51 cents per share, in the same period last year. BRE recorded net gains on sales of investments totaling $1,250,000 (11 cents per share) and $153,000 (1 cent per share) in the second quarter of fiscal 1995 and 1994, respectively. Net income for the first six months was $12,649,000, or $1.16 per share, compared to $10,624,000, or 97 cents per share a year ago.

BRE also increased the quarterly dividend by 5 percent to 63 cents per share from the previous level of 60 cents. The new dividend is payable March 23, 1995 to shareholders of record March 10, 1995. The dividend increase reflects both the improved results of the first two quarters and an encouraging outlook for continued improvement in the future.
