GERDAU, the Brazilian steelmaker, acquired a 75% stake in U.S.-based Ameristeel Corp. Gerdau, which also owns two plants in Canada, is considered Brazil's biggest producer of long-rolled steel, widely used in construction as reinforcement material for concrete. Ameristeel is considered the second-biggest U.S. producer of iron bars.
