BRAWL PUTS CANYONS IN TITLE GAME.

The College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  men's basketball team didn't dribble a ball in the semifinal round -- or even take the court.

But the Cougars will still play in the championship game of the Cougars Holiday Classic tournament at 4 p.m. today against Antelope Valley College Antelope Valley College is a comprehensive community college located in Lancaster, California, USA. Because both teams were forced to forfeit their next game, it left Pierce with twolosses, eliminating it from the tournament.

``That's the right rule. Our team left the bench, and we paid the consequences for doing that,'' Pierce caoch Ed Babayan said. ``I told them they had to be responsible for their actions. It is uncharacteristic of them to do that. Basketball is a physical sport, and it just got a bit out of hand.''

The Antelope Valley
 advanced to the title game with a 87-55 semifinal win against Moorpark on Thursday. The Wolverines will play in the third-place game against Moorpark at 2p.m. today.

``You always want to compete,'' Canyons coach Howard Fisher said about getting a pass into the title game. ``But we'll be all right. We will shoot around and have a light workout and get ready for the championship game (today). It's unfortunate this happened but those are the rules.''

Pierce was scheduled to face Los Angeles Trade Tech in the semifinal of the consolation bracket before being sent off.

Trade Tech advanced to the consolation final in which it will face College of the Sequoias
The College of the Sequoias should not be confused with the similarly named College of the Redwoods in the northern California town of Eureka and College of the Siskiyous in Weed, California.
 at noon today.

Canyons beat Trade Tech 93-86 Wednesday in the opening round of the eight-team tournament behind a 20-point performance by Jacob Briggs and Andre Murray's 19 points coming off the bench.
