Byline: Gideon Rubin Staff Writer

LANCASTER - A bench-clearing brawl A bench-clearing brawl, sometimes known as a basebrawl, is a form of ritualistic fighting that occurs in sports, most notably baseball and ice hockey, in which both teams leave their dugouts, bullpens, or benches and charge the field or ice surface in order to fight one  erupted in the top of the 15th inning Monday night when Evel Bastida charged the mound and swung his bat into the back of JetHawks pitcher Josh Kranawetter.

Kranawetter had hit Bastida with a pitch in the back after John Castellano broke a 4-4 deadlock with a three-run double.

Kranawetter lay on the field for several minutes as the brawl continued.

Law-enforcement officials were called onto the field to help restrain players on both sides, but it didn't seem to help, as five minutes after the initial brawl the entire JetHawks bench chased the Inland Empire In·land Empire

The JetHawks, who rallied from a 4-0 deficit going into the bottom of the seventh, trailed 4-3 with one out in the bottom of the eighth when Williams scored from third on a Garthwaite popup. Inland Empire shortstop Eddie Menchaca fielded the ball near outfield grass behind second base but threw wide right of catcher Chris Collins.
