The President has nominated Army Lt. Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes Kevin P. Byrnes is a retired U.S. Army four-star general, (1 of only 11), who was relieved of command in August 2005, apparently for adultery (officially for disobeying a lawful order from Army Chief of Staff Peter Schoomaker), after 36 years of military service.  for assignment as deputy chief of staff for programs for the Army. Currently, Byrnes is serving as assistant vice chief of staff.

Army National Guard Col. Kerry G. Denson has been nominated for promotion to brigadier general. Denson presently is serving as deputy adjutant general, Wisconsin Army National Guard, in Madison, Wis.

Army National Guard Col. William W. Goodwin also has been nominated for promotion to brigadier general. Goodwin currently is serving as chief of staff, Texas State Area Command, Austin, Texas.

Air Force Maj. Gen. John R. Baker has been assigned as assistant deputy chief of staff for Air and Space Operations. Currently, Baker is serving as director of Joint Matters, for the deputy chief of staff of Air and Space Operations.

Stan Z. Soloway has been named president of the Professional Services Council, located in Arlington, Va. Soloway is the undersecretary of defense for acquisition reform and director, Defense Reform Initiative.

Northop Grumman Corporation's Integrated Systems Sector has chosen John Mazach, Vice Adm., USN, (Ret.) as vice president and Integrated Product Team leader of the new firm's Aircraft Product Support and Services organization, in Bethpage, N.Y. Mazach joined Northrop Grumman in 1999, after serving in the Navy.
