The results were unofficial, and the final tally will be released at an awards banquet on Friday in Montebello. The all-day, 10-event decathlon called for students to compete in topics of critical thinking, essay writing, public speaking, art, language, music, math, economics and science. The culminating event was the Super Quiz where students had 30 seconds to answer questions before a crowd at Gladstone High School in Covina. Like any competitive athletes, the decathlon students worked hard, long hours to reach their goal. ``We started studying the summer of last year,'' said Jonothan Loh of Rowland High School. ``We spent 10 hours studying a few days ago and six hours yesterday ... I feel we are pretty ready.'' Friends and family cheered the teams on, many holding banners or T-shirts with school names on them. Sixty questions and points were announced during midgame and South High School was leading.
