BRADLEY GETTING BETTER : FOOT MOVEMENT CALLED GOOD SIGN.

Former Mayor Tom Bradley, recovering from a post-operative stroke, showed signs of improvement Sunday, sitting up in bed and enjoying a holiday visit with his family.

Bradley, 78, is flexing his right foot, an indication that his condition may be improving, said Roberta Tinajero, a spokeswoman at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center.

``Right after the stroke he was unable to move his right side,'' Tinajero said. ``He now can completely flex his foot. That's a very good sign.''

Unable to speak, Bradley communicated with his family by squeezing hands and moving his head during an Easter visit that lasted several hours.

Doctors recommended bypass surgery after cardiac specialists noted that the former college track star was having trouble breathing and becoming overly weak during exercise.
