(Algeria) Ltd.; today announced the test results from the MLW-1 well, a new wildcat discovery well on the Menzel Lejmat Block 405 in the Berkine Basin of Algeria. The well flow tested from a single zone in the Devonian (Strunian F1 Sandstone), with a net pay zone of 5.5 meters (18 feet), at a rate of 1,545 barrels of 42.3 degree API gravity The American Petroleum Institute gravity, or API gravity, is a measure of how heavy or light a petroleum liquid is compared to water. If its API gravity is greater than 10, it is lighter and floats on water; if less than 10, it is heavier and sinks.  oil and 3.34 million cubic feet of natural gas per day on a 40/64 inch choke with 885 psig flowing wellhead well·head

LL&E Algeria Ltd. operates the MLW-1 well which is located approximately 13.5 kilometers (8.4 miles) southwest of the MLN-4 well which tested oil at a rate of 11,144 barrels per day Barrels per day (abbreviated BPD, bbl/d, bpd, bd or b/d) is a measurement used to describe the amount of crude oil (measured in barrels) produced or consumed by an entity in one day.  from the same (Strunian F1 Sandstone) formation.

The MLW-1 well was drilled to a total depth of 3,670 meters (12,041 feet) and encountered two hydrocarbon-bearing intervals. In addition to the Devonian reservoir, the Triassic TAG formation tested 38 degrees API oil at a low rate from a 2 meter (7 feet) net interval, but failed to produce fluids to surface. No formation water was recovered during either of these tests.

Bobby Shackouls, BR's chairman, president and chief executive officer commented, "Although the TAG formation was not productive in the MLW-1 well, we are very encouraged with the test results from the Devonian interval which was also productive at the MLN-4 well. This reservoir could be stratigraphic stra·tig·ra·phy

rather than structural in nature and pervasive over the central portion of Block 405. We are moving the rig to immediately begin drilling the MLN-5 well approximately 6.7 miles east of the MLW-1 well and 1.65 miles south of the MLN-4 well to further test both the Devonian and TAG horizons."

In the southeastern portion of Block 405, a second rig under contract is currently drilling the MLSE-2 delineation well. This well is located approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) to the northwest of BR's recent new field discovery, MLSE-1.
