BPA seeks information on vandals.

The Bonneville Power Administration The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) is a U.S. self-financed federal agency which transmits and sells wholesale electricity in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and western Montana. The BPA is part of the U.S. Department of Energy, and is headquartered in Portland, Oregon.  is offering a reward to help find vandals who shot out insulators on a high-voltage transmission line east of Springfield last Friday.

The vandalism caused thousands of dollars worth of damage and lost revenues to the BPA BPA British Paediatric Association. , Eugene Water & Electric Board and Lane Electric Cooperative.

BPA has posted a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

About 80 insulators were shot on BPA's Cougar-Thurston 115,000-volt transmission line, causing it to go out of service at 7:15 p.m.

The McKenzie River is a tributary of the Willamette River, 86 miles (138 km) long, in northwestern Oregon in the United States. It drains part of the Cascade Range east of Eugene into the southernmost end of the Willamette Valley.

To make up for the lost power, EWEB bought about $5,000 worth of power on the open market, spokesman Lance Robertson said.

Jeffrey Millennor, security specialist for BPA, said vandalism accounts for millions of dollars in damage to the Northwest power system each year, and the costs are passed on to ratepayers.
