BP Plans Work Force Increase.


BP Exploration (Alaska Alaska (əlă`skə), largest in area of the United States but third smallest (exceeding only Vermont and Wyoming) in population, occupying the northwest extremity of the North American continent, separated from the coterminous United States ) Inc. recently announced its Alaska work force will increase from 740 to about 1,300 employees as it becomes the single operator of the Prudhoe Bay Prudhoe Bay, inlet of the Beaufort Sea and Arctic Ocean, N Alaska, in the Alaska North Slope region, east of the Colville River delta. In 1968 one of the largest oil reserves in North America was discovered in Prudhoe Bay.  field and accelerates efforts to develop a North Slope North Slope, Alaska: see Alaska North Slope.  gas sale project.

Most of the new employees will become part of its Greater Prudhoe Bay Business Unit, which is responsible for the operation and continued development of the oil field, adjacent fields and satellite accumulations.

The company expects to fill the majority of the new positions with people who have worked at Prudhoe Bay for years, many as long-time employees of Arco Alaska Inc.
