BP Amoco Foundation Selects 6 Non-Profit Finalists For $500,000 Leader Awards; Two Winning Chicago Organizations Will Receive $250,000 Each In September.


CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 3, 1999--

BP Amoco Foundation, Inc. has selected six Chicago non-profit organizations A non-profit organization (abbreviated "NPO", also "non-profit" or "not-for-profit") is a legally constituted organization whose primary objective is to support or to actively engage in activities of public or private interest without any commercial or monetary profit purposes.  - ACCION ACCION Americans for Community Co-operation in Other Nations  Chicago, Community Services West (Academy Bakery), Shore Bank Neighborhood Institute, The Resurrection Project, Women's Business Development Center and Women's Self-Employment Project - as finalists for its $500,000 Leader Awards which recognizes excellence in leadership, innovation, job creation and economic development. The winners will be celebrated on September 29, 1999, during a BP Amoco awards ceremony at the Fairmont Hotel.

All finalists were selected by the Leader Awards Nomination Committee made up of Chicago business leaders, non-profit executives, the media and representatives from BP Amoco Foundation Inc. The first-round selection of nominees included 69 non-profit groups in the Chicagoland area.

Winning organizations will participate in the Amoco Fellows program, a nine-month curriculum to promote internal capacities of non-profit organizations through professional development and leadership.
