BP Amoco Foundation Announces Plans To Award $500,000 To Chicago Community Groups Fostering Leadership and Economic Development; 69 Non-Profits Are Nominated For BP Amoco Leader Awards.


CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 1999--

BP Amoco Foundation, Inc., one of Chicago's largest community contibutors, will award $500,000 to local non-profit organizations A non-profit organization (abbreviated "NPO", also "non-profit" or "not-for-profit") is a legally constituted organization whose primary objective is to support or to actively engage in activities of public or private interest without any commercial or monetary profit purposes.  demonstrating excellence in leadership, innovation, job creation and economic development. Two winners, each receiving a $250,000 grant, will be honored hon·or

1. High respect, as that shown for special merit; esteem: the honor shown to a Nobel laureate.

This year, the Foundation has partnered with two major non-profit organizations - Chicago United and Donors Forum of Chicago The Donors Forum is an association of Illinois grantmakers. The winning organizations must have programs with demonstrated track records and annual budgets of up to $5 million. Both $250,000 awards will be used to expand and strengthen the organizations' already successful programs.

Additionally, senior executives of the winning organizations will be invited to participate in the BP Amoco Fellows program, a nine-month curriculum to promote leadership, fundraising
