Receive $250,000 to Boost Community-Based Programs

The Global Social Investment Unit of BP Amoco today announced three non-profit Chicago organizations -- ACCION Chicago, Fund For Redevelopment and Revitalization, and Women's Business Development Center - are winners of its 2000 Leader Awards totaling $750,000. Each organization will receive $250,000 for demonstrating excellence in sustaining human progress through job creation and retention, leadership, and innovation. The Awards will be presented on Friday, September 15, 2000, during the BP Amoco Corporation Leader Awards Luncheon at the Fairmont Hotel from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Banks, Vice President of the Global Social Investment Business Unit of BP Amoco Corporation. "ACCION Chicago, Fund For Redevelopment and Revitalization, and Women's Business Development Center not only pinpoint areas of improvement, but also provide the necessary tools to move forward in the name of human progress and community development."

Since it was founded in 1994, Accion Chicago has offered not only hope, but economic and self-reliant success to Hispanic and African-American communities.

Created in 1992, the Fund for Redevelopment and Revitalization's mission is to help transform Woodlawn, Kenwood and Oakland on the south side of the city into stable mixed income communities. The Fund is designed to help community residents have greater access to job opportunities in their communities through the development of residential and commercial projects. In the next year, the Fund will develop plans for 63rd Street, an area sorely sore·ly
