Bozigian is co-owner of Coldwell Banker Bozigian Real Estate, a former Antelope Valley Fair board member and had been chairman of the local YMCA's advisory committee.

``We have grown so much and so quickly, the area really needs a YMCA like this. It will be a huge asset to the community,'' Bozigian said.

The 35,000-square-foot center planned for Lancaster City Park is proposed to have an indoor pool, gym, aerobics studio and a fitness area with cardiovascular equipment. It would be built immediately south of the park's Stanley Kleiner Activity Center.

The new YMCA will be funded by a combination of grants and community donations.

The new center is expected to attract 5,000 members, which would make the Antelope Valley YMCA one of the largest in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California.
