Granada Hills boys' tennis coach Simon Robertshaw said he thinks this year's City Section playoffs, which begin Tuesday, will be much more competitive than last season.

Robertshaw points to his team's effort in an April 18 match against defending section champ El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

 of Woodland Hills.

One of Robertshaw's No. 1 doubles players, Jeremy Choo, missed the match with food poisoning food poisoning, acute illness following the eating of foods contaminated by bacteria, bacterial toxins, natural poisons, or harmful chemical substances. It was once customary to classify all such illnesses as "ptomaine poisoning," but it was later discovered that , causing Robertshaw's top team to lose in three sets. Despite the setbacks, Granada Hills lost by only one point, 4-3.

``I think (the playoffs) will be interesting,'' Robertshaw said. ``(El Camino Real) will have a lot of competition.''

, vying for its sixth consecutive City Section title, is still the bracket's top seed. Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  is seeded second. Eagle Rock and Granada Hills are ranked third and fourth, respectively. All four teams earned first-round byes and will open play in the quarterfinals Thursday.

The top three teams each had undefeated league seasons in 2005. Granada Hills was the West Valley League runner-up to ECR.

No. 2 Palisades was 15-2-1 overall and 10-0 in the Western League this season. It lost to ECR in the 2004 semifinals.

Palisades' postseason success will rely greatly on injured No. 1 singles player Chris Ko. Coach Bud Kling said there is a 50 percent chance Ko will be able to play.

``If he plays, we are as good as anyone,'' Kling said.

No. 3 Eagle Rock, the Northern League champions, has advanced to at least the City Section quarterfinals in each of the past five seasons. Coach Eric Jacobson Eric Jacobson is a puppeteer and Muppet performer, who has been the primary replacement puppeteer for Frank Oz's characters since 2001.

Jacobson initially started playing Bert in 1997, but officially joined the cast as Bert, Cookie Monster, and additional Muppets in 2000.
said he believes this might be the best team he has coached.

No. 4 Granada Hills finished 8-2 in the West Valley League. Robertshaw said he thinks a balanced singles roster will help his team succeed in the postseason.
