Thousand Oaks was being dominated by Loyola of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  in the Southern Section Div. II boys' soccer final, and the frustration was beginning to show. The score was still close, although the outcome seemed a mere formality.

One magnificent, individual play by Jason Leopoldo changed everything.

The UCLA-bound forward, who had been bottled up by Loyola double-teams all game, found himself one-on-one with a defender on the right side. He made his move almost parallel to the post, faked inside to turn the defender around, and scorched scorch

That is how the game ended, a 1-1 tie that gave Thousand Oaks a mostly satisfying co-championship at Cal State Fullerton.

``I had no angle,'' said Leopold, who celebrated by running toward the middle of the field with his arms up and did a belly flop belly flop

, not only tied the score, it switched the momentum to Thousand Oaks' favor. The Lancers had chances from then on while limiting top-seeded Loyola (31-3-2) to one good scoring opportunity.

After the game, Thousand Oaks players had no reservations raising two fingers to indicate back-to-back championships, even if this one was shared.

``It feels like a win,'' Leopoldo said. ``I know they're a great team, and we came back against them. Just like we came back from some struggles this season.''

The Lancers (15-9-2) began the season 0-7 without Leopoldo, who was playing club soccer. Thousand Oaks goalkeeper Jon Hall made two spectacular saves in the first half, but defender Erik Lauterman made the biggest defensive play when Loyola's Scott Larrabee slipped by Hall early in the second half. Lauterman jumped in front of the goal to knock away the shot.
