BOYS GETS CHANCE TO PLEAD CASE.

Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Daily News Staff Writer

For two weeks, Bobby Fullove has bit his lip. Today, he gets the chance to speak up.

Fullove is the legal guardian of Ian Boys, a promising basketball player who transferred from Buena to Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  this summer. Two weeks ago, Boys had his hardship waiver to play basketball at Simi Valley turned down by Southern Section commissioner Dean Crowley. Today, Fullove and Boys will appeal that decision before a three-person executive committee at the CIF (1) (Common Intermediate Format) A standard video format used in videoconferencing. CIF formats are defined by their resolution, and standards both above and below the original resolution have been established. The original CIF is also known as Full CIF (FCIF).  office in Cerritos.

``We finally get the chance to tell our side of the story,'' said Fullove, the father of Pioneers guard Branduinn Fullove. ``Nobody has bothered to ask about our side and what is happening. Everything that has been said or published is from a very pointed, tunnel-vision approach.''

When Crowley announced his decision, it concluded a 3-1/2-week investigation into Boys' transfer to Simi Valley. Crowley has declined comment pending this morning's hearing.

Pioneers have welcomed out-of-the-area players Pero Vasiljevic (Australia), Rafael Berumen (Pomona) and Fullove (Reseda), who enrolled last year as a freshman at Santa Susana High School Santa Susana High School is the third high school located in Simi Valley. Because Santa Susana Santa Susana can refer to several places:
  • The Santa Susana Mountains in southern California
  • Santa Susana Pass, running through the abovementioned mountains
  • Santa Susana Field Laboratory, near Los Angeles, a test facility for rockets and (formerly) nuclear reactors
does not have athletic programs, Fullove was allowed to play for another district school and picked Simi Valley in a lottery.

Those developments, coupled with Boys' sudden decision to leave Buena to join an already powerful Pioneers team, caused some coaches to speculate that Simi Valley was manipulating the rules to improve its basketball program.

air hovering over there,'' Westlake coach Gary Grayson said this summer. ``I didn't know Simi Valley had such affordable housing. It must be a boom town.''

Bobby Fullove became Boys' legal guardian in July. Boys and Branduinn Fullove have been friends for five years.

``There has been a crisis in the (Boys) family, and, since we're of the same faith, we felt the Christian thing to do was to bring him into our family,'' Bobby Fullove said in July. ``That is what this is all about.''

Crowley's ruling had a significant impact on Boys' high school basketball career, since Buena coach Glenn Hannah said that even if the 6-foot-7 senior comes back to Buena, he will not play with the Bulldogs. The team recently voted not to welcome Boys back if his appeal is denied.

Fullove said he has ``at least four other options'' should Crowley's ruling be upheld.

``None of them involve playing at Buena,'' said Fullove, who would not offer any details.
