BOYS CITY INVIT.: DESPITE LEPIASHINSKI'S 30, RESEDA LOSES TO UNIVERSITY UNIVERSITY 87, RESEDA 77.

Byline: Gideon Rubin Staff Writer

INGLEWOOD - Sergei Lepiashinski grew up in Belarus, part of the former Soviet Union, watching the great Lakers See Lake poets  teams of the 1980's winning championships. He never imagined he would play for a championship at the Forum.

And so Lepiashinski had mixed emotions after his Reseda High basketball team lost the City Section Invitational in·vi·ta·tion·al

``I'm really happy to be here, but I'm a little upset with our game. I think we could have done a little better,'' said Lepiashinski, who scored a game-high 30 points for the Regents.

``They're a better team, they deserved to win,'' he said, ``but we could have just played a little bit better.''

The thrill of playing at the Forum, however, isn't just reserved for those who came from half a world away.

``Playing here is just fun,'' Reseda point guard Eric Johnson

The Regents continued their run into the third quarter and took their first lead of the game with 5:30 remaining on a Johnson layup. A Lepiashinski 3-pointer on their next possession made it 50-48 Reseda.

University trailed 52-50 when it started a 13-2 run to take a 63-54 lead at the end of the third quarter it would never relinquish.

``Just playing in here, we were a little nervous,'' Johnson said, ``but after the first quarter, we got it going.''
