Special to the Daily News

Once the opening whistle sounded Friday night, everyone in attendance at Poly High of Sun Valley sat a little more upright in their seats and moved to the edge of the bleachers in anticipation of one of DJ Gay's signature moves.

It didn't take long for the 6-foot senior point guard to deliver a memorable highlight, one that figures to linger in the minds of every North Hollywood player for quite sometime.

Gay dribbled the ball in between his legs several times from the top of the key, crossed over to his right and drained a fadeaway fade·a·way

a 22-point lead early in the second quarter, electrified the packed crowd in the tiny gym and provided plenty of momentum en route to a 65-47 victory, which clinched the program's third consecutive Sunset Six League title.

That was apparent from the outset. Gay scored the first nine points of the game, 11 in the first quarter and had 19 points by the end of the second quarter as Poly took a 37-15 lead at the half.

"DJ got off tonight," Poly coach Brad Katz said. "That's what he does."

With a comfortable lead, Gay changed roles and became a facilitator, keeping everyone involved. He dished dished

The victory was particularly satisfying for Poly (20-5, 9-1), ranked No. 7 by the Daily News, considering the Huskies (17-11, 7-3) were the only team to defeat the Parrots in league this season, by five points in late January.

"We wanted to prove a point tonight because we thought they disrespected us after the last game," Gay said. "We came out focused. There was no way I was going to let us lose this game."

Gonzalez finished with 11points, Guerra had a pair of 3-pointers and Santiago Moreno Santiago Moreno (born 2 February 1964 in San Miguel de Cornesa) is a retired Spanish triple jumper.
