BOYS & GIRLS CLUB STAGING FUND-RAISER.

Calling it the most important event since forming in 1970, supporters of the Boys & Girls Club Girls Club is a 2002 American television series created by David E. Kelley, who was also it's producer and executive producer. ``This is the most important function in the club's history,'' said Keith Jajko, an officer on the club's board of directors. ``We just opened our long-awaited permanent facility, and with that comes added costs. We had to hire more people, and with all these new responsibilities comes cost, so this is one of the most important years as far as fund raising.''

The event will be held at the new 25,500-square-foot club at 2850 Lemon Drive. Named ``Carnivale de Simi,'' the event includes a full-course dinner, and features a silent and a live auction with more than 500 items donated by local businesses for sale.

The preview will start at 4 p.m. and the silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m., and the live auction will commence at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $50 and $85, and can be reserved by calling 527-4437.

``It's definitely going to be our most colorful and exciting auction ever,'' said Paula Mackelburg, assistant executive director. ``It's a party atmosphere. We're celebrating the opening of our new facility, and we're inviting everybody to be part of the new Boys & Girls Club.''

The new club facility opened May 6 following years of planning and legal battles over its impact on a neighboring office complex. Since opening the club has added about 300 members, and serves about 2,000 children ages 7 to 17 who pay $5 a year to belong.

The club expects more than 400 people to attend today's event.

Money raised through the auction will help pay for operations, staff, utilities and supplies such as sports equipment and arts and crafts arts and crafts, term for that general field of applied design in which hand fabrication is dominant.
