BOYS'BASKETBALL : POLY'S LEAGUE RECORD GETS FIRST BLEMISH; H.-W. SCORES 119 IN WIN.

With star Ellis Richardson sidelined by an ankle injury, Poly High School lost its first Mid-Valley League game of the year, to visiting Sylmar 55-49 on Wednesday.

The Spartans (11-9, 5-2) took advantage of Richardson's absence by jumping to a 21-13 first-quarter lead against the Parrots (15-6, 6-1). Daron Wilson led Sylmar with 14 points.

Poly, which still has a one-game lead in the league race, got 12 points from John Gillard.

No. 1 Harvard-Westlake 119, Alemany 52: Jason Collins Jason Paul Collins (born December 2, 1978 in Northridge, California) is a professional basketball player for the New Jersey Nets of the NBA. He graduated from Harvard-Westlake School and later attended Stanford University, where he was an All-American in 2000-01 and appeared on  scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Wolverines (25-1, 9-0) tied a school single-game scoring record in a Mission League win over the Indians (1-19, 0-10). Victor Munoz added 15 assists and nine steals, while Marc Bretter had a career-high 17 points for Harvard-Westlake off the bench.

No. 6 Chaminade 57, Crespi 41: Scott Long had 22 points and 14 and Justin Stewart added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles (17-5, 8-1) in a Mission League win at home.

     scored 34 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the host Eagles (18-4, 11-0) in a double-overtime win against the Barristers (6-5 league). With the victory, Eagle Rock has clinched a tie for the Northern League championship.

    Cleveland 62, Taft 61: A desperation last-second shot by Brandyn Fisher failed to connect, enabling the Cavaliers (17-5, 5-2) to escape with the West Valley League road win over the Toreadors (12-8, 3-4). Mike Schultz Michael Alan Schultz (born on 28th November 1979 in Van Nuys, California) is a minor league baseball pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks franchise.     Van Nuys 57, Reseda 44: Jesse Keane led the Wolves (7-12, 2-5) with 14 points in a Mid-Valley League win. Cesar Ruelas added 11 for host Van Nuys.

    L.A. Valley 68, Canyons 58: Leon Brisport scored 17 points with 12 rebounds and three blocks and Tyreese Basey had 15 points as the Monarchs (18-9, 5-1) beat the Cougars (12-15, 2-3) in a Western State Conference South Division game at Canyons.
