BOYS' WATER POLO: ROYAL SWEEPING THROUGH LEAGUE.

Byline: HEATHER GRIPP Staff Writer

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  -- Tyler McClure and Blake Hubbell spent much of the school day discussing what they needed to do to keep the Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. Then they followed through perfectly.

McClure and Hubbell were involved in every goal Royal of Simi Valley scored Wednesday in a 10-5 victory over Moorpark at Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. With the win, the first-place Highlanders have defeated every Marmonte team this season, and showed that even though the up-and-coming Musketeers have made drastic strides, they have a bit further to go to reach the level of a Royal program that has won 21 league titles in the past 26 years.

``All day we were trying to get pumped up for it,'' McClure said. `We have a class together, so we were talking about it a lot.

``We just wanted to have fun and come out and take it to 'em.''

McClure finished with a game-high five goals, and Hubbell added four. The Highlanders' only goal not scored by the senior duo was provided by Mike Lee, with an assist by McClure.

Lee's goal with 2:43 remaining in the second quarter put Royal ahead for good at 4-3.

Back-to-back goals by Kyle Hare and Chris Beattie gave Moorpark its lone lead at 2-1 in the first quarter, but a score by Hubbell left the score tied at the end of the opening period. Royal led 5-3 at halftime.

That the game was close through three quarters was an indication of why Royal (20-2, 7-0), the top-ranked team in Div. IV, wasn't taking the Musketeers (13-4, 5-2) lightly even though Moorpark is a fourth-year program that has never beat Royal and never earned a playoff play·off also play-off
