WESTLAKE VILLAGE - M.G. Gonzalez's summer, spent training with Pepperdine's top players, paid off handsomely Friday afternoon. He made two big defensive plays and scored a pivotal third-quarter goal as Oaks Christian of Westlake Village topped crosstown cross·town or cross-town

Gonzalez's goal, with 1:26 remaining in the third quarter, gave Oaks Christian a 3-1 advantage. Balikian made the critical play to set up the goal, intercepting Bruce McCunney's pass in front of the Lions net.

Balikian's first goal gave Oaks Christian a first-quarter lead, and Tyler Reardon restored the advantage late in the second quarter.

Chespak made his save, with Westlake holding onto a 3-1 lead midway through the third period, after Matt Pritchard made a steal and fed Austin Baker for an open shot.
