The Wolverines have had their seasons end with losses to Long Beach Wilson so often that Harvard-Westlake players say their coach tells them that a ghost haunts Belmont Plaza, Wilson's home pool and the site of the section finals. Tuesday's championship game, featuring top-seeded Harvard-Westlake and No. 2 Wilson, did little to dispel the coach's claim. The Wolverines failed to win their first section title since 1991 as the Bruins came from behind for a 9-8 victory after outscoring Harvard-Westlake 2-1 in the final quarter. The title is the third in a row for Wilson (26-4), which had lost to the Wolverines (27-3) in a nonleague game last month. The championship gives the Bruins seven titles in eight years, including three in which they beat Harvard-Westlake in the final. The Wolverines pulled to within one on a 4-meter penalty shot by Brian Flacks with 23 seconds remaining, but they never got another shot. Flacks, who scored a game-high three goals, gave Harvard-Westlake the early lead as he scored back-to-back goals before being hit in the face and playing the rest of the game with a swollen eye.
