SANTA BARBARA Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850.  -- James Ker and the Valencia boys' volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. The No. 3 seed Vikings won the first game against Santa Barbara in the team's Southern Section's Div. II semifinal match. But that was it for Valencia's highlights, as No. 2 seed Santa Barbara took the next three games for a 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-16 victory over defending champion defending champion n (SPORT) → defensor/a m/f del título

 Valencia.

The Vikings (30-7) will not be in the championship final for the first time in five seasons, and a big reason is that Santa Barbara (19-1) played stifling defense and took advantage of crucial hitting errors by Valencia.

The Dons advanced Saturday's title match at Cerritos College Cerritos College is a public comprehensive community college founded in 1955 located in Norwalk, California. It was named after Rancho Los Cerritos, a ranch that served prominently in the region in the 19th century. . It will be Santa Barbara's first appearance in the championship match since 1992.

"It's disappointing we won't get to be in the final and defend our title," Vikings coach Mark Knudsen said. "We definitely made a lot of errors that are uncharacteristic un·char·ac·ter·is·tic

of our team. (Santa Barbara) is a solid team with good defense and for some reason they were able to force us to commit these errors. We had guys that are usually error-free making mistakes."

Those errors proved costly in the second game.

"We just didn't play our match," said Ker, who finished with eight kills and three serving aces. "This team hadn't faced this type of pressure under this type of atmosphere and cheering. But not reaching the final doesn't make me feel less about this team."

Santa Barbara took advantage of Valencia's mistakes in the second game, converting the errors into points. The Dons picked up 10 points off Valencia errors during that game.

It was the Vikings' celebration in the first game that sparked Santa Barbara's come back, Santa Barbara coach Chad Chad (chăd, chäd), Fr. Tchad, officially Republic of Chad, republic (2005 est. pop. 9,826,000), 495,752 sq mi (1,284,000 sq km), N central Africa.  Arneson said.

"After we saw the way they celebrated at the end of the first (game), we knew we had to show them it wasn't over," Arneson said. "We were able to keep them off-balance with good passing and hard hitting. We had to show them that celebrating early didn't phase us."
